Video Lectures under 'Additional Materials'
March
9, 2009
|
|
Take a look at the new 'Video Lectures'
section of this website under the 'Additional Materials' tab. You
will find lectures from courses in Economics and Mathematics from
schools such as MIT, Yale, and Oregon.
The 'Classroom Materials' tab is still in the works, but will eventually
have problem sets, midterms, and final exams from various courses in
Economics from a number of schools across the country.
All in all, these materials should serves as an excellent supplement to
your courses, or for entertainment if you are interested in learning
more about courses such as Game Theory or various mathematics courses.

Who needs a recession to talk about when you have
economics jokes?

A mathematician, an accountant and an
economist apply for the same job.
The interviewer calls in the mathematician and asks "What does two plus
two equal?" The mathematician replies "Four." The interviewer asks
"Four, exactly?" The mathematician looks at the interviewer
incredulously and says "Yes, four, exactly."
Then the interviewer calls in the accountant and asks the same question
"What does two plus two equal?" The accountant says "On average, four -
give or take ten percent, but on average, four."
Then the interviewer calls in the economist and poses the same question
"What does two plus two equal?" The economist gets up, locks
the door, closes the shade, sits down next to the interviewer and says
"What do you want it to equal?"

Spring Semester
Updates
January

|
|
A new semester is here which means there were some minor house keeping
items that were taken care of. The updated tutoring schedule is
posted around the Economics Department as well as in the Tutoring tab on
this website. Thanks to everyone who is volunteering their time
this semester!
In our last meeting, we elected the
officers for the next year. The elected officers are as follows:
President: Matt
Nicklay
Vice President: Danielle Wicker
Secretary: Clark Redlinger
Treasurer: Ben Karnatz & Zach Baack
Historian: Sarah Stangl
Last Monday, members of the Economics Association, AMA, and the
Investment Club put on a forum on the Financial Crisis. It was a
great success. See the link below for an article from the St.
Cloud Times about the Forum. Thank you to all the students who
helped organized everything, great job!

Here is a news article from after the
event that was posted on the SCSU website. It has a handful of
audio clips from the event.

Our Next Meeting is
Important!
November 19, 2008
|
|
I recommend to everyone to read over the minutes from this weeks
meeting! Minutes can be downloaded from the box on the left side
of the page if you didn't receive Brandon's email.
Our next meeting will be December 3rd,
where we will be voting on new Officers. We are also working on
restructuring our committees, including the possible addition of a
"Current Events" committee. This committee will be responsible for
gathering information on current economic topics to discuss during our
meetings. As most of us are economic majors, or similar, these
topics are becoming ever more interesting given the current state of the
economy.
We also are in the starting planning
stages of putting together another forum, put on by the professors,
similar to the financial crisis forum we had last month (which was a
great success). It will likely take place soon after the beginning
of Spring semester.
For those leaving for Washington D.C. in
the morning, have a great trip.
