| Commitment, motivation, determination, 6:30 a.m., and
community, what do these have in common? It's simple, six dedicated
individuals that want to change. Over the last month, this community has
made a commitment to get fit and stay fit. They have taken on a challenge
set forth by the Student Recreation center to take a progressive total body
conditioning class at 6:30 in the morning for six weeks. Even though the six
weeks is over, they are still committed to getting fit and will be taking
the class again for the next six weeks.
It says a lot for these six individuals to get up and go to the rec that early in the morning. The class is only twice a week, however you can find them at the rec center all five days at 6:30 a.m. One thing that is unique to this community is that it is made up of people from two different buildings on campus. This is an accomplishment for a campus that is usually very competitive when it comes to the halls. Last week, they even had a seventh person decide to join them. If you were to look at this group of individuals, you would see that they work hard to keep each other motivated and on the right track to getting fit. This group has made great strides and changes and they can be seen by everyone in the buildings that they live in. The group's attitudes have also changed tremendously; many of them are more positive and have changed the way they think. Just looking at this community, they have all together probably lost between 80 and 100 pounds at least, if not more. If a group can get up, go to the rec, and have fun, then that says a lot for them as a community. Everyday, you can see the motivation, support, and recognition that this group gives each other. If it was not for each other, this community would probably not be where they are at in their commitment today. After returning from Spring Break, the group was right back at the rec that Monday morning. When they found out that the total body conditioning class would not meet until the week of March 22, they still could be found conducting their own class so that they could work out. This is an outstanding group that has been working towards their goals since the beginning of the semester; however, in the month of March, it has been very evident how much they are committed, dedicated, and motivated. This is because many people fall off the bandwagon after spring break and stop going to the rec, but not this group. You will probably be able to find them at the rec in the morning for the remainder of the semester because of their commitment. If any community deserves to be recognized as Community of the month, it is the North Quad Six or should we say 7 now. Word Count: 496 |
