Origin of Program: MTV Cribs Word Count: 2 |

Please give a short description of the program: This program came about when RHAB (Resident Hall Activities Board) decided we wanted to collaborate with TV 10. The idea came after brainstorming different programs that could easily be carried out with the help of the on-campus television station. After a vote, Cribs was selected as our fall project. Cribs is modeled after the MTV program featuring the homes of celebrities. A committee was formed that decided on a nomination form to be filled out by the room owners. The committee also decided on publicity and format of the presentation. It was decided that each hall would have the opportunity to submit two rooms (one male, one female) to the committee, of which 10 rooms (five male, five female) would be chosen. Non-co-ed halls were still given the opportunity to submit two rooms. Halls were given the freedom to use their own discretion on choosing representatives. Once the halls submitted their winning rooms, the executive board voted on the 10 best rooms to be aired on TV. A list of the top rooms was given to TV 10 and the winners were contacted to have their room filmed. TV 10 then went around and took footage of the rooms with the occupants giving a narration about what made their room the best. TV 10 tried to edit the footage to imitate the format of the actual MTV version of the show. On the night of December 4, 2003, the rooms were aired. Two representatives from RHAB hosted the live broadcast while two RHAB members stood on hand to answer the phones. TV 10 had two lines available that night for people to call in and vote for their favorite room. Word Count: 280 |

Goals of the program: The goals for this program were to showcase the creativity involved in residence hall room decorations. It was designed to be an additional source of entertainment for students looking for something to do on a Thursday night. It provided an opportunity for on-campus students to unite within their hall and support the people being featured. Word Count: 55 |

Positive and lasting effects of the program: This program gave halls the opportunity to plan their own contest to pick a winner, as well as come together to support their candidates. People that participated were given the chance to be in the spotlight and to share their ideas. It also allowed people to become more aware of RHAB and what we do on campus. It encouraged people to be creative and spread good ideas for creating a feeling of home. It was an opportunity for RHAB to collaborate with another organization on campus (TV 10). Word Count: 88 |

Short evaluation of the program: The program went very well. TV 10 was given a limited amount of time to get the rooms taped and edited, which may have made them feel rushed. They did a wonderful job despite this and things ran smoothly. Many people tuned in to the program. People were excited about the prizes they received for participating. Many phone calls were received throughout the night voting for their favorite room. A lot of publicity was done for us through the students that were being featured telling their friends to tune in. How could this program be adapted to other campuses? This could easily be adapted for use on other campuses, provided that they have a TV station to collaborate with. Most campus TV stations are always looking for good ideas and just need the support from another organization. Campuses that have only one residence hall can have wing contests or floor contests. The format of the contest is completely up to the school that is facilitating the event. Word Count: 68 |
