| Chad Roehl was an outstanding example of a dedicated student
during the month of July at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Chad
Roehl is a senior accounting major who anticipates graduating in May, 2005.
In pursuit of his bachelors’ degree, Chad took a difficult three credits
during the month of July. Chad’s pursuit of excellence was demonstrated in
his work quality. Even though Chad only had time to complete homework before
class, it was done with great thoroughness and quality.
In addition to his class that met for two and a half hours every day, Chad worked 40 hours for Housing and Residence Life. Chad’s job included putting in many day and night hours at the front desk. He also assisted with preparing several hundred beds in anticipation of the Special Olympic Tournament to be held in August. In his spare time, Chad started a very lengthy project of putting together resident assistant boxes. Each large box was covered with butcher block paper and then tastefully decorated with various reality show themes. Chad’s help was greatly appreciated by hall directors and students alike. In addition to working 40+ hours, Chad offered his skill and enthusiasm to a volleyball league that met every Thursday night over an hour away. Chad’s passion for volleyball came through as he demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and talent. Chad was also very active in July on several Housing committees that met. Chad attended one of NRHH’s fall leadership retreat planning meetings. Chad’s helpful hints and creative ideas made him a great addition to our committee. Another committee that Chad was on included the Party House Committee. Party House is UW-Eau Claire’s campaign to educate students on the effects and consequences of drinking alcohol. Chad’s responsibilities included creating two scenarios to read dealing with the consequences that are associated with risky alcohol drinking. Chad also helped out with the Creating the Ultimate Blugold Experience (CUBE) Festival committee. Chad brainstormed potential ways that Housing could advertise and market this program to students. Finally, Chad was on the Block Party committee. The Block party is a brand new program that will bring in different food vendors from around the Eau Claire area. Chad was on the games committee that designed games that will be played during the event. Such games include a pie eating contest, bull riding, bed races up the giant UW-Eau Claire hill, and a tricycle race. Chad’s dedication to academics and involvement in Housing and Residence life is to be commended. It is without hesitation that I nominate him to be recognized as the student of the month for the month of July. Word Count: 436 |
