| Nathan Klettlinger took over the position of the Student
Action Team Director for Residence Hall Council (RHC) for the Spring 2004
semester. Although a relative newcomer to RHC, Nathan did not waste time in
getting involved and working to plan programs. In fact, during the month of
March Nathan took it upon himself to plan an entire Alcohol Awareness Week
to be held April 5-9. Programming a week such as that requires excellent
communication and organization skills, which Nathan showcased in a fantastic
way. Beginning March 8, Nathan began by contacting Mothers Against Drunk
Driving (MADD) of Summit County to come speak to the students on the first
night of Alcohol Awareness Week. At that presentation, Nathan also organized
for there to be a margarita machine to make non- alcoholic drinks for
everyone to enjoy. This required a number of phone calls, on March 11 and
March 18. Nathan created applications for Hall Governments to submit a
program to be considered part of Alcohol Awareness Week March 15. He passed
these out to Hall Presidents at the RHC general meetings on March 16 and
March 30, encouraging Hall Governments to get involved and generously making
himself available for further consultation at any time. Nathan also visited
the Health Services center on campus on March 30 to collect information on
alcoholism, drinking and driving, and other alcohol-related pamphlets to
display on a table he would have set up in Robs during Alcohol Awareness
Week. An event such as Alcohol Awareness Week cannot be put on without
publicity, so that is what Nathan did on Monday, March 29. He created a
table tent to display in Robertson Café (Robs), the dining hall, as well as
a booklet to be passed out in various locations in the residence halls. As
if planning Alcohol Awareness Week didn’t make Nathan busy enough, he also
created a Sun and Alcohol Poisoning pamphlet on March 11 and 12 to be passed
out the week before Spring break reminding college students to have fun
responsibly. Furthermore, Nathan supported other RHC events through his work
and faithful attendance. He helped with the RHC community service project of
March, which was to distribute Multiple Sclerosis Walk information to local
businesses on March 15. He attended the RHC-sponsored UA Leads Leadership
Development Programs on Wednesday March 3 and 17, for two hours each
afternoon as well as the Deidre McCalla dinner show on Tuesday March 30 that
RHC co-sponsored with Residence Hall Program Board. Nathan is a hard worker
with a great attitude. He not only does what is required of him for his
position but is always willing to help out fellow RHC members whenever he is
needed. I believe his hard work and dedication to RHC and the planning of
Alcohol Awareness Week make him qualified for the honor of Executive Board
Member of the Month.
