Huskies Close Out Regular Season with Win
04/08/01 Duluth, MN
ö With their eyes clearly set upon the UMLL Championships just a week away, the Huskies defeated the St. Mary's Cardinals in a rain-soaked game in Duluth this past Saturday. The Huskies were led by "speedy" Craig Fuller with a season high 8 goals and 3 assists and Goalie Nick Powell with 18 saves as they cruised to a 17-7 victory. The Huskies were also encouraged by the return of senior captain Nick Thorson who made his presence felt with 3 goals and 4 assists. Next weekend the Huskies are expecting a #3 seed which means they have the opportunity for a rematch with Minnesota-Duluth in the Semi-finals.
Huskies Lose Two Games, One Player
04/08/01 Northfield, MN ö After the first two weekends of outdoor play in the UMLL the Huskies have found themselves with the loss of two hard-fought games and one key player.
The Huskies ran into a tough test in Minnesota-Duluth as they lost 7-6 in OT for St. Cloud State's first loss of the season, but were encouraged by the resiliency the team showed in coming from behind. This weekend's
games hosted by Carleton College featured a match-up with Minnesota State-Mankato. Mid-way through the first quarter senior attackmen Nick Thorson suffered a collapsed lung and was taken to the hospital; he is recovering steadliy, but his status for the rest
of the year is unknown. The Huskies eventually lost the game 12-5 to a battle-tested Mankato team but bounced back well with a 20-9 schlacking of St. Olaf Sunday morning.
Huskies Sweep Indoor Season to Remain Perfect
03/24/01 Plymouth, MN ö The St. Cloud State Lacrosse team finished their indoor season Saturday night with a 10-2 romp over Minnesota State-Moorhead.
This keeps their record perfect and confidence high as they begin their outdoor season this upcoming weekend at Iowa State University. This weekend will be a turning point for the Huskies as they will face perennial foe Minnesota-Duluth.
The Huskies have never defeated the Bulldogs in regular season play and have made it their goal to defeat them this year. Good Luck Huskies!!!!!
2001: Looking Ahead
10/01/00 ö After a
disappointing finish to
last year's season the Huskies are looking to improve on their great regular season with a trip to St.
Louis for the National Championship this year. Attackman Dan Bredemus
will be extremely tough to replace, but with a huge returning core of
veterans as well as strong freshman class ready to step up the Huskies are primed for a
run at the UMLL
Championship. Three members off last year's All-UMLL team return to the Huskies this year,
Nick Thorson, Nick Lukovsky, and Shreve Parsley, as well as the league's MVP at attack, "speedy" Craig
Fuller. All the pieces of the puzzle are there for an unbelievable
year, but the key to a championship season lies in the how well the
team works together.
2000 Year
in Review
10/01/00 ö After an educational spring break
in Texas the Huskies began the regular season on fire winning 11 of
their first 12 games, but finished
the season on a down beat losing to the University of Duluth 11-3 in the semifinals of the
UMLL tourney. Last year's highlights include joining the USLIA, winning the 8th annual Cloud
Classic, and placing 5 players in the top 10 in UMLL scoring, including league leader Nick
Thorson.
